This extraordinary crystal inkwell from the renowned Baccarat is an example of exquisite charm and grace. Known as the Encrier La Vague, or "The Wave Inkwell," this model was exhibited by Baccarat at the Exposition International de l'Est de la France in Nancy in 1909. It recalls similar works created by the famed sculptor Paul Aubé, who exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon beginning in 1892.

Featuring a doré bronze siren languishing upon the crest of a rolling wave, it effortlessly embodies the organic movement so treasured by Art Nouveau sensibilities. Lidded doré bronze ink receptacles in the shape of a conch shell and nautical instrument perfectly complement the swooning siren, skillfully combining beauty and function. Richly detailed, this inkwell is a true masterwork from this world-renowned company.

Other examples of this model are illustrated in Baccarat: Une Manufacture Française by D. Sautot and Baccarat: La Légende du Cristal by M. Lerch and D. Morel.
